The Baltimore-Washington International Airport, Md., measured 24.8 inches of snow from the storm. That breaks the record for the largest two day snowfall, which was 24.4 inches set back on February 16-17, 2003.



The 25.8 inches of snow that fell in Wilmington was the greatest snowfall in the city's history. The storm's snowfall also brought this winter's snow total to 53.9 inches, ranking this season as the second snowiest on record.



In Washington, D.C., the blizzard has brought the winter's snowfall total to 44.9 inches. This winter is now the city's third snowiest on record. The winter of 1898-99 ranks first with 54.4 inches.



Philadelphia recorded 28.5 inches of snow from the blizzard. This winter is now the city's second snowiest with a total of 56.3 inches. This is also the second storm that has dumped over a foot of snow on Philadelphia this winter. That has only occurred one other time in recorded history.



The snow that fell alone Friday set numerous daily snowfall records. The following lists these records with the old record in parenthesis.

Columbus, Ohio: 9.0 inches (3.1 inches from 1967)
Dayton, Ohio: 7.7 inches (2.0 inches from 1998)
Indianapolis, Ind.: 5.3 inches (3.6 inches from 1908)
Wallops Island, Va.: 1.5 inches (0.5 of an inch from 1989)



With 11.4 inches, Pittsburgh, Pa., broke Friday's daily snowfall record that was 4.7 inches from 1899. Friday is now Pittsburgh's snowiest February day on record. February 20, 1947, previously held that record with 10.4 inches.



Pittsburgh also set a daily snowfall record Saturday. The 9.7 inches that fell broke the previous record of 4.3 inches from 1911.

The targeted zone has shifted slightly and is likely to shift again. It looks like instead of the targeted zone being NYC to Boston, Southern New England and Providence... It seems it has shifted to being Philly to NYC and Southern New England, and NOT Providence and Boston. Now don't think that they won't do well, because they will... As of now i can see 5-8, 6-10, maybe even a little more. As for the Target zone, it remains a bit of a mystery, i would say more then a foot of snow at the least... maybe, just maybe, up to 2 feet or more of snow... but that depends on how everything comes together. The target zone may shift back north again and then back south and go back and fourth for a little bit, but either way, I would say Southern New England and NYC are in it for good!!! So look forward to at least a foot, probably more!!!!

Am i the only one left with the northern senario?

Am i the only one left? The only one that thinks NYC can get 7 inches or maybe more of snow? well.... sort of. It looks like almost everyone, including the models, have given up on a major snow for NYC and Southern New england. But not me. i think the models are already making major mistakes. the radar already shows snow way north and moving to the NE while the models show that they are going to be more south which is already a mistake. so i am sticking with 8 inches in the city!!!! and when im the only one right, i hope people look to my blog and see what went wrong! Here are my slightly updated snow totals. I'm putting most of the totals for the mistake areas, but some are areas that aren't mistakes... enjoy!

Hartford: 1.5 inches (mistake area) No accumulation
New london: 2 inches (mistake area) 0- dusting
Westport: 5.5 inches! (major mistake area) 1-2 inches
Monsey: 3 inches (mistake area) 0- dusting
Scranton: 2 inches (mistake area) No accumulation
NYC : 8 inches (mistake area) 2-4 inches (some say 5 or 6)
Staten island: 10 inches 3-6 inches

Just wanted to quickly say, as a blogger i think i can say this, weather.com really needs to get there act together. The last 3 or 4 storms have been rediculous. There current forecast for staten island is 1-3 inches of snow, yet their winter watch says 8-12!!! i mean seriously? and they say 2-5 in NYC, and i think its obvious that either way staten island is going to get more snow. so there's a mistake, and the watch for NYC... posted on there site.... is 4-8. ????? . So some really weird stuff there. There prediction for SW, CT is about an inch of snow. That annoys me. You can already tell from the radar it looks like more snow is coming. Now to the rest of the totals....:

So bottom line is this is going to be a powerful, historical, and in some cases a scarey storm. Looks like for the most part North of NYC will get less then a foot of snow. But still The city and southern New England are not completely clear of this snow. Meaning i think 3-6 maybe more is still in the running for this one.


Special shout out to News12 Traffic and weather... Not only have they been right the past few storms, which were very hard to predict, they've also responded back to me the last few storms. They are the closest to my forecast right now, in thinking this snow snow track could still shift, and i want to give them a shout out for doing so. So, THANK YOU... Thats it for now... Update on monster snowstorm....

hey everyone,having trouble with the maps so im just going to write. Lots of dissagreement over this storm right now looks like NYC could get anywhere from 1 inch to in some models a foot and a half... now niether are likely, even though the inch sounds more likely right now... but it will most likely be inbetween. my forecast for NYC is a solid 6 or 7 inches, so it went down... again a foot or more is shown in some models. right now im fairly uncertain... here are a few updated snowfall totals... hopefully ill have a map tomorrow

Monster snowstorm from Roanoke to DC to Philly to NYC

hey everyone, a monster snowstorm, which will be a 2010 blizzard for some, will disrupt the east coast starting today and going to possibly sunday for some! This storm will bring everything from severe weather to flooding to ice to snow to blizzard and no matter what u get it will get COLD!!!! ive made an extremely nice snow map that i think is extremely accurate.... before we get to the map here are the snow totals i think across the area... i may include towns for some of the followers on the blog.

Roanoke: 14 inches
DC : 28 inches!
Baltimore: 25 inches
Harrisburg: 11 inches
Philadelphia: 13 inches
Pittsburgh: 10 inches
State college: 7.5 inches
scranton : 3 inches
trenton : 12 inches
NYC : 9.75 inches
Staten island: 10.5 inches
Westport, CT: 8.5 inches
hartford : 3 inches

Major Mid-Atlantic Snowstorm... More snow and storms in your future...

Hey everyone, i think for the most part my snow total predictions were pretty accurate. Before i go on about the current major winter storm going on in the mid- Atlantic region, i would like to adress something that happened on thursday.... and it was crazy.

So, the prediction for SW connecticut for thursday was a chance of a quick rain show with the front that was passing through. Now this prediction was published the wednsday, of the thursday storm. So, 7:00 Thursday morning there were some extremely light snow flurries beginning to fall... barely visible. It was nice to see and i knew that late wednsday night they updated it to some rain or snow showers developing. so i knew there was a chance so i wasnt shocked... yet. by around 8:00 Am it was snowing heavy with winds gusting to 40 mph... COMPLETELY UN-EXPEXTED. there was close to an inch on the ground by 8:30... as the day progressed there was no sign of it stopping. by 10:00 there was close to 3 inches. The flakes were switching between big and small and it was crazyyy... by around 1:00 PM the snow was lightening up just a little bit and there was nearly 4 inches of snow on the ground. Finally by around 1:30 there was no snow and sunny skies. By 2:30 it was getting cloudy again... and this is the strange part, even though the rest was pretty strange already. By 4:00 PM the was a crazy 3 minute blizzard winds must have been close to 50 mph and the snow was coming down lik crazy. FOR 3 MINUTES!!! it added a half an inch at least. So... just a quick story i had to share since the models were so wrong.


OK... now for the weather going on.... The storm is currently exiting off the Carolina coast. Once again, the models brought the storm too far to the south, so instead of DC getting an inch like originally predicted... they got 5 inches like i predicted or at least they have close to three already and its still coming down hard and expected to do so for the next couple of hours at least. Philly even in on the action!!! maybe an inch or less... for NYC i still thing you'll see some flakes... north of there i see nothing.


Long Range Forecast:


Tuesday/Wednsday... 2nd/3rd: Storm comes up the gulf of mexico and cuts through to the east coast bring rain to Texas, LA, and most of the south including MS, AL, GE, and the carolinas. As for snow... light snow looks possible across TN, SW KY... Virginia looks like it has another threat for a heavy snow, and maybe even some ice across Nothern NC. Again, it looks like a dome of High pressure will block any snow from getting further north then maybe DC. and snow will be light around there. Florida looks like it will get some heavy rain once again with maybe some severe weather included, especially central FL.

Thursday-Wednsday... 4th-10th!: Now we get into some crazy stuff. In some ways this storm will be similiar to the 2nd/3rd storm but different. The storm will come from the same place but about 5x stronger. The southern states will be slammed by a flooding and cripling rain storm. Severe weather looks likely too. Northern FL looks to get the worst with unbelievebal rain and severe weather. The difference with this storm is it will sit in the gulf and slowly move across FL and just follow the coastline up and then it shows around 100-200 miles off the coast of Long island and Nantucket. Looks like just a major snowstorm for all the areas that got hit this weekend except OK, plus this storm will turn up north and slam PA, SE NY, CT, MA, parts of VT and NH, and ME. some areas look like they will see a foot to two feet of heavy snow. It will be a blizzard for some. The scarey part, or for me exciting, is that the models have been very consistent on this storm. So we shall see.

Friday... 12th: looks like a storm will come out of TX and be a major rainstorm to the south some ice and snow on the northern edge... but it looks too far away to tell what happens.

hey everyone, sorry i haven't updated in a while, i want to start off today with talking about a pretty big snowstorm coming across the west and now into texas, and will begin to affect a lot of the south and mid atlantic states.

Ardmore : 0.20 inches of ice/ 0.75 inches of snow
Tulsa : 7.8 inches
Little rock : 1.75 inches
Memphis : 0.15 inches of ice/ 2.5 inches of snow
Tupelo : Little or no Ice accumulation
Huntsville : 0.10 inches of ice/ 0.10 inches of snow
Nashville : 7.5 inches
Chatsworth : 0.20 inches of ice/ 2.5 inches of snow
Knoxville : 4.5 inches
Bakersville : 9 inches
Easely : 1.8 inches
Witchita : 5.5 inches
Topeka : 1.5 inches
Springfield : 6.6 inches
Louisville : 0.10 inches of ice/ 0.5 inches of snow
Roanoke : 6.8 inches
Fayetteville : 2.0 inches
Richmond : 8.3 inches
DC : 5.7 inches
Baltimorre : 5.0 inches
Philadelphia : 1.2 inches
NYC : 0.5

Anywhere to the south of these areas will likely see heavy rain and some wind... maybe some severe weather... In fact FL will have to be a place to watch for some severe thunderstorms which will really cool some places down... even southern FL maybe see 60's by sunday and then it maybe slowly get back to normal.

Also after this storm it will get cold everywhere... The major cities of the North East will likely begin to see high temps in the 20's and lows actually in the single digits and for a lot of the northern half of the country we'll see lows in the single digits and below zero, even HIGHS in the single digits and below zero!!!!

Fridays potential eastern Snowstorm

Hey everyone... i just wanted to briefly discuss the potiental for an eastern snowstorm on friday. It looks to me that there will be a good storm coming across the eastern half of the county from thursday to probably saturday depending on how far east or west you are. The image below shows the storm really dropping a good foot of snow of much of the Kentucky area. it also shows some serious as around memphis. It seems like the storm is going to move eastward and as of now it shows the storm going south of NYC and Boston... It does show NYC getting clipped by the storm though. WV northern VA and southern PA look to be hit pretty good by this storm too. Maryland and northern DE look to be hit also. this is still a long time away. There is still the possibility that the storm doesn't come together... or, what i hope to happen, the storm comes further north and NYC, Hartford, and Boston can get in on the action... well that's it for now... please check the long range forecast and be sure to leave a comment or questions.
